BE it drones taking the place of waiters, a robotic machine that tiles floors or a virtual dresser that allows you to try on clothes without stepping into a changing room, the inaugural National Productivity Month (NPM) held in October served up a big dose of innovative solutions.

The national-level initiative aims to showcase and share ideas, methods and perspectives on how companies could improve productivity. Companies put their best technologies on show, such as eatery Food Glossary, which used technology by letting customers order and pay through their mobile phones, the website or digital kiosks.

"The National Productivity Month, is a good testament of private-public partnership in driving economic transformation towards productivity-led growth. During NPM, we saw industry experts sharing experiences and knowhows, and exhibitions featuring interesting technologies. Such showcases illustrate the possibilities and opportunities of productivity improvement in various sectors," (SBF) chairman S S Teo and SNEF chairman Robert Yap said in a joint statement.
