SINGAPORE and London are both at a crossroads, at a time when both are dealing with the stresses and strains of being a global city in the world.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, in a speech that was due to be delivered here last night, said that London's global standing was a major advantage, both for itself and the UK as a whole.

But with this lofty status comes some hurdles that it has to overcome. London is faced with higher property prices, challenges in social integration, and the "nagging worry" that the city no longer feels like an English one.
