M1 probed for potential personal data breach
[SINGAPORE] In addition to dealing with customers irate over the 12-hour suspension of pre-orders for the new Apple iPhones, M1 now has to contend with an investigation by the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC).
The telco had on Monday suspended taking pre-orders for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus for 12 hours "as a precaution to protect customers' personal information" after it "discovered a potential security breach".
In response to queries from The Business Times, a PDPC spokesperson said: "Under the Personal Data Protection Act, organisations are required to make reasonable security arrangements to protect personal data in their possession or under their control in order to prevent unauthorised access, collection, use or similar risks. The PDPC is investigating and has contacted M1 on this matter."
