LEVERAGING a new spider jet robotic cleaning device, Mencast Holdings has been able to achieve considerable cost savings and significant time improvement in job completion leading to overall productivity gains. Mencast is a MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) service provider in the marine, and oil and gas sectors.

The new device, imported from Japan last year for S$2 million, has made the tricky job of scraping off paint from large oil tanks and repainting them much easier as it can climb to heights up to 15-storey high to perform the task.

Previously, scaffoldings had to be erected for workers to be able to climb up to scrape the paint in the tank farms of oil refineries and repaint them. It is a mandatory requirement for oil tanks in the farms to be repainted every few years.
