SINGAPORE and Japan are still in the middle of a review of their free trade agreement, with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong noting over the weekend that the lengthy talks between the two countries have yet to produce a breakthrough.

"The review has been ongoing for some time. From our side, we would like better access to petrochemicals and also for foodstuffs, whether it is milk powder or processed foods - things that are important to our exporters," he told reporters in Tokyo.

He was in the Japanese capital to attend a special summit marking 40 years of relations between Japan and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations.
