DESPITE a sluggish economy, there was robust support for the arts last year, especially among individual donors who continued to give generously to their chosen artistic and cultural groups in 2014. This year, the Patron of the Arts Awards is honouring a total of 226 corporate and individual patrons who have contributed a total of S$53.8 million, comprising S$44.2 million in cash contributions and S$9.6 million worth of in-kind sponsorship, towards the arts sector in 2014.

This is a marked increase of more than 67 per cent compared to 2013, when S$32.2 million of cash and in-kind donations were made. The number of individual donors honoured for their contributions in 2014 also increased by a notable 26 per cent, jumping from 91 donors in 2013 to 115.

"This increase is testament to the growing awareness of the value of the arts, and can also be attributed to timely opportunities such as Singapore's Golden Jubilee celebrations," says Kathy Lai, CEO, National Arts Council (NAC).
