NTUC conference backs wage model, PME push
Delegates reaffirm that the moves are in workers' long-term interest
[SINGAPORE] After three days of brainstorming, the labour movement agreed that the progressive wage model (PWM) that they launched last year was its best hope to keep wages growing, said labour chief Lim Swee Say.
And the best hope for growing its ranks - another key issue - is to get more professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) into the labour movement's fold. This was the conclusion of the 650-plus union activists at the biennial National Trades Union Congress' (NTUC) Ordinary Delegates' Conference which ended yesterday.
"There's no running from the progressive wage model, there's no running away from reaching out to the PMEs," Mr Lim told reporters after the conference yesterday.
