AS one of the busiest ports in the world, Singapore has its hands full ensuring that its terminals stay efficient amid rising competition. But the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) believes that the port not only has to be competitive but also environmentally sustainable.

To this end, the agency in charge of maritime and shipping here has rolled out a series of measures in recent years to promote environmentally friendly shipping and port operations in Singapore.

Just last year, MPA formed the Sustainability Office to develop and promote sustainable port development in the maritime industry.
