President's key role in development
International policy, security and sustainable development are among main concerns.
AS Kazakhstan prepares to celebrate its Day of the First President holiday on Dec 1, it also looks back on the guidance of the country's first and only president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, through the years and how he is continuing to provide stability in the uncertain future.
Mr Nazarbayev won Kazakhstan's first national presidential election on Dec 1, 1991, with 98.8 per cent of the votes. This was a new dawn for Kazakhstan after it achieved independence and set out on its path to independent statehood.
The Day of the First President is a reminder of how the foundations were laid for the new, independent Kazakhstan which has made tremendous progress to become a mature state and active and responsible member of the international community. The day was established in 2011 to mark the 20th anniversary of the independence of Kazakhstan.
