Proton and Perodua drive strong growth in M'sian car sales

SALES of automobiles surged last month, suggesting that Malaysia's growth is not slowing significantly.

The Malaysian Automotive Association revealed last Friday that the car industry's total industry volume (TIV) last month surged 7.5 per cent month-on-month to 54,945 units. For the year to date, the TIV grew by 6.4 per cent to reach 487,898 units. That's strong growth for an economy that's supposed to be slowing.

On an annualised basis, the industry's TIV would come in at almost 637,000 units which is more than analyst projections.
