PTC implements automated storage and retrieval system
The logistics firm plans to use robotics in the warehouse to speed up export operations
SPA winner, Poh Tiong Choon Logistics (PTC), had modest beginnings when it was founded in 1950 as an owner-operated transport company. Over the years, the company grew together with the country and its clients to become one of Singapore's largest home-grown logistics companies.
Now, listed on the Singapore stock exchange, PTC is committed to improving productivity by leveraging technology in the key business segments. For instance, it implemented the automated storage and retrieval system and the material flow system to manage their warehousing facilities to optimise storage area and ensure its operational efficiency.
In the transportation segment, the customer truck loading system implemented in 2013 enables it to achieve better utilisation of drivers. Similarly, the container traffic management system implemented in 2005 allocates container trucks so that no empty container comes back to the warehouse. It also enhanced its system from using radio assignment to mobile data terminal on the truck.
