Question: Why is an oil company like Shell so concerned with energy efficiency? What is Shell hoping to achieve?
Ms Goh: Energy is such an integral part of our day-to-day lives and oil is an essential part of our energy mix. Even though we can't predict the future, we can agree that oil demand is clearly linked to economic growth.
The supply of oil alone may not keep pace with global economic growth in the long term, unless we explore new horizons today. Now is our chance to get ready. To play a constructive part in the energy system later, Shell today is a large investor in research and development. To discuss opportunities for new forms of energy or energy transport, Shell has a Future Technology Group that reports to the CEO.
