SingTel's mio TV fined a record $220k for outage
May disruption amid Arsenal-Wigan EPL match lasted 9 hours, affecting some 26,000 subscribers
Add BT as a preferred source[SINGAPORE] SingTel's mio TV has been hit with a $220,000 fine for its May outage by the Media Development Authority (MDA) - breaking yet another record for fines meted out by the regulator.
The islandwide service disruption, which coincided with a crucial English Premier League match between Arsenal and Wigan on May 15, lasted nine hours and affected some 26,000 mio TV subscribers. This is mio TV's third breach of its quality of service obligations in two years, MDA noted in its statement yesterday.
The operator's previous two service disruptions drew fines of $80,000 and $180,000, respectively. The latter fine - for the outage that affected 115,000 subscribers in May last year - had been the largest MDA-issued fine, up until now.
