SLNG open to spot use of terminal

[SINGAPORE] Having already built up more than sufficient capacity to handle domestic gas needs, Singapore LNG is gearing up for its next growth phase - that is, to open up the Jurong Island terminal shortly for spot or short-term use by the many LNG producers and traders who have set up operations here.

SLNG CEO John Ng told BT that ahead of a Terminal Access Code (TAC) currently being worked on by regulator Energy Market Authority to optimise use of the $1.7 billion terminal, SLNG, which has just expanded its capacity, and is in the interim "open to its short-term usage, and may seek the Regulator's approval if customers request for this".

"We can look into this," he said, especially once the terminal's newly-built secondary jetty is commissioned by end-March. "So far, we have not signed up anyone yet. (But) once we get a high-level agreement with a would-be user, then we will ask the EMA for approval."
