NAVIGATING the world of finance can be a minefield. Chances are you will get fooled at least once in your life by dodgy marketing. Greed is inherent in human nature, and it is hard to pass up on a supposed risk-free opportunity to make a quick buck, or to sign up to a seemingly good deal. There are outright scams where you pay for something and do not get anything back.

This article, however, is more concerned about the dubious deals that exist especially around interest rates. A common area of confusion revolves around how long the interest rates apply for.

Without an understanding of how returns are affected by time, you might end up paying what you were not really willing to pay, to get returns that are not ideal.
