Tudor unveils latest North Flag, Pelagos, Fastrider

THE North Flag and Pelagos stand out in Tudor's 2015 watch novelties because they are powered by Tudor's first in-house movement - a self-winding calibre holding 70 hours' power reserve and boasting a silicon hairspring that makes the watch more reliable and accurate. The latter is certified by the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute, better known as COSC.

The North Flag, in particular, is a new model. It's inspired by the British North Greenland Expedition team who in the early 1950s wore Tudor Oyster Prince watches, while doing experiments in the most hostile conditions imaginable on Earth. The watch comes in a 40 mm steel case with a double bezel in steel and matt black ceramic. The black dial has a matt finish. Price: US$3,550 in leather strap and US$3,675 in steel bracelet.

The Pelagos is a diver's watch introduced in 2012. It's water-proofed to a depth of 500 metres and is equipped with a helium escape valve, essential for preserving the watch during so-called "saturation" dives. The dial is designed to provide optimum readability, the square hour markers on it - the famous "snowflake" - "generously sized" and complete with a large quantity of luminous material in blue - the last colour on the spectrum to be discernible at great depths.
