SEVERAL new energy-efficient initiatives have been implemented at the Woodlands Civic Centre (WCC), which has been recognised as an energy efficient building at this year's EENP Awards under the public sector large building category. The complex is guided by an energy management framework which monitors and controls energy usage to achieve optimal efficiency, according to its developer, the Housing & Development Board (HDB).

A Green Mark Platinum building, Woodlands Civic Centre is leased to about 50 tenants operating F&B, retail, and other commercial outlets and offices. Woodlands Regional Library, HDB Woodlands Branch Office and Sembawang Town Council are also housed under one roof in Woodlands Civic Centre.

Over the past three years, from 2013 to 2015, various new energy-efficient initiatives by HDB has helped Woodlands Civic Centre to achieve an energy consumption savings of more than 40 per cent. This has translated into a savings of S$700,000 a year in utility bills.
