Americans too busy to stop wasting food
National survey finds that they feel guilty when throwing food away but are not willing to be inconvenienced

AMERICANS say they feel bad about the 130 billion pounds (60 kg) of food that the nation wastes every year. But not badly enough to do anything about it.
More than half the respondents in a national survey released on Thursday said that they are aware of the scale of this US$160 billion problem. Almost 80 per cent said that they feel guilty when throwing food away, but 51 per cent said that it would be difficult to reduce household food waste. And 42 per cent said that they do not have enough time to worry about it.
