Malaysia inflation rate stable in August, in line with economists’ forecast

[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia’s consumer price index (CPI) increased 2 per cent year on year in August, a Department of Statistics Malaysia report indicated on Friday (Sep 22).
The increase was the same as in July, and in line with the forecast by 19 economists in a recent Reuters poll.
Core inflation, which excludes volatile items and those with government-administered prices, was down 2.5 per cent, from 2.8 per cent in July.
