Malaysia minister says unclear why US tariff rate was increased, seeks to balance trade
[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia’s Trade Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz said on Wednesday (Jul 9) that he did not know why a US tariff on Malaysia was increased from 24 to 25 per cent, adding his country was committed to balancing trade with Washington.
Speaking at a press conference, he said that Malaysia’s offer to the United States includes purchasing Boeing aircraft for Malaysia Airlines, and his country would improve environmental protections and is encouraging cross-border data flows.
He said that Malaysia would not compromise on issues of national sovereignty and was prepared to defend “red lines”. REUTERS
