Malaysia’s exports rebound in July, beating forecast amid tariff uncertainty
They rise 6.8% to RM140.5 billion, the highest monthly value since September 2022
[KUALA LUMPUR] Malaysia’s exports rose 6.8 per cent year on year to RM140.5 billion (S$42.7 billion) in July, the highest monthly value since September 2022, led by stronger shipments to Singapore, the US and China.
The rebound ended two months of contraction and far outstripped economists’ forecast for a 3.9 per cent decline, a Reuters poll indicated.
Imports also surprised on the upside, rising 0.6 per cent to RM125.5 billion versus expectations of a 2.9 per cent drop.
