MALAYSIA’S national oil company Petroliam Nasional (Petronas) said that its new business unit Gentari aims to build a renewable energy capacity of 30 to 40 GW specifically in solar by 2030, it said in a press statement on Thursday (Jun 16).
This is amid Gentari’s plans to provide clean-energy solutions by 2030, including supplying up to 1.2 million tonnes per annum of hydrogen and becoming a preferred green mobility solutions provider.
Petronas said that Gentari intends to accelerate the adoption and commercialisation of clean energy while delivering renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility solutions globally, starting off with Malaysia and Asia-Pacific.
Chairman of Gentari, Tengku Muhammad Taufik, said that the new unit will offer cleaner-energy solutions to meet the energy needs and lower carbon aspirations of Malaysia and overseas customers.
“We aim to capture opportunities in the low carbon energy space by providing affordable and accessible solutions and systems by enabling scale of production and infrastructure availability,” he added.
