SINGAPORE is continuing its efforts to bolster trade and investment ties with China and countries from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, with the Singapore Business Federation (SBF) leading a delegation to the China-Asean Expo in Nanning, China.

The annual event, now in its 21st edition, runs from Tuesday (Sep 24) to Saturday and features an exhibition area of about 200,000 square metres.

It serves as a key platform for Singapore and other Asean countries to explore new avenues for trade and investment cooperation, SBF said in a statement on Wednesday.

Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment and Manpower Koh Poh Koon on Tuesday attended the opening ceremony, which drew more than 1,100 attendees.

He also toured the Singapore pavilions, which included the Singapore National Pavilion and the Singapore Commodity Trade Pavilion.

The pavilions showcased 42 Singapore exhibitors, including 13 trade associations and chambers.

SBF chairman Lim Ming Yan highlighted the Republic’s “active role” in promoting investment and trade between Chinese and Asean businesses, particularly in areas such as technology, markets and supply chains.

He referenced findings from the SBF National Business Survey 2023/2024, noting that half of the 1,056 Singapore companies surveyed across various sectors already have operations in China.

“Among those planning to expand overseas, 22 per cent have chosen the Chinese market,” Lim said. “Looking ahead, I believe the Chinese market will remain a key growth area for Singapore businesses,” he added.

One such company is YLY Health Products and Technology SG, a wholesale trader making its debut at the event. Said its CEO Jun Yang: “We are excited to explore the possibilities ahead and eager to connect with more people, share insights, and uncover new business opportunities.”
