August fall in manufacturing output stokes recession fears

THE factory output numbers for August are worse than expected - and the question on the lips of some economists now is not whether Singapore is already in a technical recession, but how serious it is.

Chua Hak Bin, an Asean economist at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, said: "We think the question should be shifting to whether this is a shallow or deep recession."
