Australia arrests 7, foils plot to conduct Christmas Day bomb attacks
Sydney
AUSTRALIAN police said on Friday that they have foiled a plot to attack prominent sites in Melbourne with a series of bombs on Christmas Day that authorities described as "an imminent terrorist event" inspired by Islamic State.
Police laid terrorism charges against one man, and are expected to charge at least three others, after authorities conducted overnight raids on homes in the suburbs of Australia's second-largest city.
