PARTY secretary of Beijing and member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Yin Li will make his first official visit to Singapore on Wednesday (Feb 19), at the invitation of Minister for Foreign Affairs Vivian Balakrishnan.

The four-day visit that ends on Saturday represents the first high-level bilateral engagement as Singapore and China mark 35 years of diplomatic ties this year. The two nations first established relations in October 1990.

During his visit, Yin will call on Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong, said Singapore’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement on Tuesday.

He will also meet Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong and be hosted to meals by Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat and Minister for Health Ong Ye Kung.

The Chinese politician will also visit the National Cancer Centre Singapore, Kampung Admiralty, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, and Changi Airport.

Yin, 62, was named party secretary of the capital city in November 2022.

He hosted Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to lunch during his official visit to China in 2023, when he was still Singapore’s prime minister.

Since 2013, China has been Singapore’s biggest trading partner, and Singapore has been China’s largest foreign investor.
