British govt requires parliament approval to trigger Article 50 for Brexit

[LONDON] Britain's High Court ruled on Thursday (Nov 3) that the British government requires parliamentary approval to trigger the process of exiting the European Union.

The British government said it is disappointed with the decision.Trade minister Liam Fox said on Thursday: "The country voted to leave the European Union in a referendum approved by acts of parliament. The government is determined to respect the result of the referendum."

The court granted the government permission to appeal against the ruling and a government lawyer said the Supreme Court had set aside December 5-8 to hear the matter.
