BEING beneficiaries of Asean integration and openness, Asean businesses should get used to and embrace more competition in their home markets for greater access to other Asean countries in return, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday.
Speaking to some 1,000 regional policymakers and business leaders at the opening of a two-day Asean Business and Investment Summit, he noted that businesses do not always welcome foreign competition in their domestic markets. "They may lobby governments to impose regulations or keep industries closed to protect themselves."
