ABOUT 27,000 people turned up at the Padang on Friday for this year's National Day Parade (NDP), which marks the Republic's 54th year of independence and the 200th anniversary of its founding.
The Padang has witnessed many key events in Singapore's history, including the first NDP in 1966. Now, it plays host to the parade every five years.
