FORMER presidential candidate Tan Cheng Bock, who narrowly lost at the last election in 2011 after a recount of the votes, has given up all hope of taking part in next month's election.

On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal - Singapore's highest court - unanimously dismissed his appeal over the timing and legitimacy of the upcoming presidential election, which is now confirmed to be for candidates from the Malay community only.
