China April consumer inflation steady at 2.3% year on year, below forecasts

[BEIJING] China's consumer prices rose 2.3 per cent in April from the same period last year, the same pace as in March and slightly less than markets had expected, data showed on Tuesday.

Analysts polled by Reuters predicted the consumer price index (CPI) would rise 2.4 per cent.

Producer prices fell 3.4 per cent, a slightly smaller decline than expected and easing from the previous month's fall of 4.3 per cent.

The market had expected producer prices to fall 3.8 per cent on an annual basis.
