China May imports down 18.1% to 803.33 billion yuan: govt

    [BEIJING] China's imports fell 18.1 per cent year-on-year to 803.33 billion yuan (S$175.9 billion) in May from the same month last year, official customs data showed Monday, suggesting further weakness in the world's second-largest economy.

    Exports decreased 2.8 per cent to 1.17 trillion yuan on-year, and the country's trade surplus expanded by 65.0 per cent to 366.8 billion yuan, China's customs authority said in a statement posted online.
