    CHINA’S employment situation improved in June compared with April and May, and more steps will be taken to create jobs, state media quoted the Cabinet as saying on Wednesday (Jul 13).

    “The employment situation in June improved from April and May, but the task to stabilise employment is still heavy,” the Cabinet was quoted as saying after a regular meeting.

    The government is due to publish June employment data on Friday.

    China’s nationwide survey-based jobless rate fell to 5.9 per cent in May from 6.1 per cent in April, still above the government’s 2022 target of below 5.5 per cent The surveyed jobless rate in 31 major cities picked up to 6.9 per cent in May, the highest on record.

    China will focus on supporting employment and rely on market-oriented methods to create more jobs, which will help boost consumption and economic growth, the Cabinet was quoted by state media as saying.

    China will forbid discrimination against people who have been infected by Covid-19 and will seriously deal with cases involving such discrimination, state media quoted the cabinet as saying. REUTERS
