AS PART of the continued support offered to street market standalone stall tenants, the Chinatown Business Association (CBA) is extending rental relief packages up till Mar 8, 2023 – by offering a 25 per cent discount on rental rates.

The rental concessions, which started in June 2021, will benefit standalone stall tenants of Chinatown Street Market along Pagoda Street, Trengganu Street, Sago Street and Smith Street, CBA noted in a statement on Tuesday (Sep 6).

Lim Yick Suan, executive director of CBA, noted that both tenants and the Chinatown Street Market have begun welcoming tourists back in the area lately.

“Chinatown remains an attractive destination for both locals and visitors, and our team has been actively developing programmes to promote it as one of Singapore’s iconic tourist destinations for its eat, shop, (and) play activities,” she added.

The CBA noted that its marketing team, with the support of stakeholders, is using social media channels and live streaming to promote Chinatown as an exciting and vibrant destination by highlighting the vicinity’s shops, food offerings and activities during its festivals.

New activities include the Feng Jie Heritage Tour, a theatrical walking tour in which participants learn about Chinatown’s history. There are also fortnightly workshops conducted outdoors as part of a Singapore street-market experience.

Some of the more popular workshops include lantern making, pottery and clay making and resin painting, said the CBA. To celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival, CBA has organised workshops teaching the crafts of making Chinese fans, flower lanterns and hair accessories.

Those interested in Chinatown’s leasing-related matters or events, may contact CBA at its email address: leasing@chinatown.org.sg or call them at 8811 3188.
