Citi: GE may be held next year due to good economic window
While both headline and core inflation rates have eased recently, public perception has not shifted accordingly

SINGAPORE'S lower-than-usual inflation rate could be one more reason for the ruling party to hold the next General Election earlier than required - in 2015, a Citi economics report suggests.
In a report issued on Monday, Citi economists Kit Wei Zheng and Yap Kim Leng said that the polls - which do not have to be held till 2016 - could be called next year instead, "capitalising on the perceived feel-good factor accompanying the 50th anniversary of independence".
