Constitutional panel on elected presidency submits report to PM Lee
THE Constitutional Commission formed by the Singapore government to review the elected presidency system and make its recommendations has submitted its report to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, the commission's secretariat announced on Wednesday.
In a statement, it said the commission, appointed by Mr Lee on Feb 10 this year and chaired by Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, had invited the public to contribute their views in writing on the matters within the commission's terms of reference.
In April and May, the commission conducted public hearings, where invited contributors made oral representations to elaborate on or clarify their written submissions.
"The commission wishes to thank all contributors for the thought and care put into their submissions and representations. The diversity of views expressed greatly benefited the commission in its work," said the secretariat.
In a statement later on Wednesday, the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) said PM Lee would like to thank CJ Menon and the other members "for the deliberation and care with which they have carried out their tasks".
"The government will study the report. It will publish the report and give its response in due course," PMO said.
