DIGITAL consultancy company Temus on Thursday (Sep 8) announced that it is piloting a “hire, place and train” tech programme in Singapore for locals from non-tech backgrounds.
The Step IT Up programme will be open to around 400 Singaporeans and permanent residents and will run until 2025. Candidates will be offered a full training sponsorship, financial stipend and a full-time job when they graduate from their training, said Temus in a statement. The company is a joint venture by Temasek and tech firm UST and was established in April 2021.
Applicants with no prior coding or software programming training and experience will be given priority to be admitted to the programme.
The Step IT Up programme was first rolled out in 2014 by UST to create computer science career opportunities for minority and disadvantaged groups in the United States. It has since expanded into Mexico, Poland, Australia Costa Rica and Israel, with about 87 per cent of graduates securing digital and technology jobs at leading global companies.
“When Temus was founded, it was much about building capabilities and value creation, as it was about organically developing digital talent. People and talent are central to any transformation and close to the purpose of Temus and at the heart of what we do (and) how we do it,” said Srijay Ghosh, its founding member and chief revenue officer.
Applications for the first batch of trainees will close on Oct 24 and the training sessions will begin on Nov 28. Interested candidates can apply for the programme at Temus’ website.
