Domestic issues may trip Biden's bid for US climate leadership

Possible that some climate-change initiatives may be dropped from a US budget bill as Democratic legislators haggle

AS US President Joe Biden flies to Europe for two key summits - the Group of 20 meeting in Rome at the end of the week, followed immediately by the United Nations COP26 conference in Glasgow - he will look to restore American leadership on what he has called an existential question: climate change.

Whether he succeeds in turning the page past Doomsday in global and American history books at these summits, however, may depend on domestic and energy issues outside of his control, strategists said.

There is speculation that some climate-change initiatives may be dropped from a US budget bill as legislators inside Biden's own Democratic party haggle about the multi-trillion- dollar price.
