Drew & Napier CEO Cavinder Bull elected to ICCA Governing Board
THE Governing Board of the International Council for Commercial Arbitration (ICCA) has elected Drew & Napier's CEO Cavinder Bull to join them as a board member effective April 1 this year.
Mr Bull will join Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon, the only other Singaporean, on the ICCA Governing Board.
In a press statement issued on Friday, the law firm said that Mr Bull and four other new members will take office for an initial four-year term that can be extended for another four-year term.
The other four new members are: John Beechey (Arbitration Chambers, Hong Kong and London, and former president of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce from 2009 to 2015); Doak Bishop (King & Spalding, Houston, Texas); Carole Malinvaud (Gide Loyrette Nouel, Paris), and Yoshimi Ohara (Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu, Tokyo).
Mr Bull's other appointments include vice-president of the Court of Arbitration of the Singapore International Arbitration Centre, vice-president of the Asia Pacific Regional Arbitration Group, and co-chairman of the Singapore Exchange disciplinary committee.
He regularly appears as counsel in large international arbitration cases, and has also been presiding arbitrator in cases brought by foreign investors against countries such as Ukraine, Kuwait and Iraq.
Barrister and arbitrator Michael Hwang will step down from the Governing Board on April 1, and has been invited to sit on the ICCA Advisory Board.
The ICCA is a global non-governmental organisation whose activities include convening international arbitration congresses and conferences, sponsoring authoritative dispute resolution publications, and promoting the harmonisation of arbitration and conciliation rules, laws, procedures and standards.
