THE Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF) says it will enhance the ComCare long-term assistance package to households by raising the cash assistance rates from July 1.
A one-person household will now receive S$500 a month, up from the previous S$450, while larger households will receive more cash assistance. A four-person household that qualifies, for example, will receive S$1,450 a month, up from the previous S$1,180.
Under the scheme, those who are unable to work and support themselves or have limited family help, are eligible for monthly cash assistance, free medical treatment in polyclinics or public hospitals, as well as access to government-funded social services such as senior activity centres.
According to the ministry, the higher assistance rates will benefit some 3,800 households, of which the majority are elderly.
