Eurozone deflation eases, unemployment drops: Eurostat

[BRUSSELS] Deflation in the eurozone persisted in March but the rate of decline slowed, official data showed Tuesday, further easing concerns that the economy faces a dangerous spiral of falling consumer prices.

Prices in the 19-nation eurozone were down 0.1 per cent in March, less than the drop of 0.3 per cent in February with low energy costs still impacting the cost of living, the EU statistics agency Eurostat said.

The European Union's data agency also reported that unemployment slipped to 11.3 per cent in February, down from a revised 11.4 per cent in January and 11.8 per cent a year before.
