GERMAN specialty chemicals giant Evonik, which has two methionine plants in Singapore, said it fully supports China's anti-dumping probe regarding the chemical and is "confident with respect to its outcome".

China's Ministry of Commerce said on Wednesday that it was launching an investigation on its imports of the amino acid methionine from Japan, Malaysia and Singapore at the request of domestic producers. The investigation will last a year, to be completed by April 10, 2020.

In a statement late on Wednesday, Evonik said it will fully cooperate with the ongoing investigation and provide all the necessary information and data.

The company is a leading manufacturer of the amino acid, used as a livestock feed additive, which it produces in Belgium, the United States, Germany and Singapore.

"Relying on this production network, Evonik supplies customers in more than 120 countries, ensuring a structurally reliable supply of methionine on a global basis - regardless of geographic location," said Evonik.

Its first methionine plant in Singapore was opened in 2014, with a second one set to begin operations this year, doubling Evonik's methionine production capacity here to 300,000 metric tons each year.
