G-7 financial heads seek a breakthrough

FINANCE ministers and central bank governors from the Group of Seven (G-7) advanced nations will go into a full day of discussions on Saturday near the northeastern Japanese city of Sendai, divided on how to harness fiscal and monetary policy to boost global economic growth.

Initial talks on Friday among the world's top financial leaders served to emphasise just how far apart some of them still are on key issues, especially on the need for concerted fiscal expansion and further expansion in monetary policy.
