GE2020: PAP wins Marymount SMC with 55% of the votes against PSP
THE People's Action Party (PAP) has won the new single-seat ward of Marymount with 55.04 per cent of the votes against the opposition Progress Singapore Party (PSP).
PAP first-time candidate Gan Siow Huang, Singapore's first female brigadier-general, took 12,143 out of 22,366 total votes cast.
Ms Gan's opponent, Ang Yong Guan, a psychiatrist contesting under the PSP banner for the first time, took 44.96 per cent or 9,918 of the votes.
There were 305 rejected votes.
Marymount SMC was part of Bishan-Toa Payoh GRC for during GE 2015 and was previously served by Manpower Minister Josephine Teo, who has been moved to Jalan Besar GRC. It was then carved out as an single-member constituency after Bishan-Toa Payoh got downsized to a four-member GRC.
Both candidates are new to the constituency, although this is Dr Ang's third General Election, having contested as a member of the Singapore Democratic Party in 2011 and the Singaporeans First party in 2015.
