GE2020: PAP's Henry Kwek wins Kebun Baru SMC with 63% of votes
RESIDENTS of the newly carved-out Kebun Baru SMC elected the People's Action Party's Henry Kwek as their Member of Parliament in the 2020 General Election, giving him 62.97 per cent of the vote share.
His opponent, Progress Singapore Party (PSP) candidate Kumaran Pillai, garnered 37.03 per cent of valid votes.
PAP received 13,284 votes to PSP's 7,812 votes. The number of rejected votes was 387.
Kebun Baru, which had 22,653 voters, was part of Nee Soon GRC in 2015. Pioneer and Merdeka Generation seniors make up 40 per cent of the constituency's population, and Kebun Baru has traditionally been a PAP stronghold.
It was carved out as an SMC this year for the first time in nearly 30 years. Mr Kwek has been in charge of the Kebun Baru ward since he was elected with the Nee Soon PAP team in 2015.
