LABOUR chief Ng Chee Meng will helm the People's Action Party's team in the new Sengkang GRC, facing off against the Workers' Party.
Senior Minister of State for Transport and Health Lam Pin Min, 50; Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and Health Amrin Amin, 41; and lawyer Raymond Lye, 54; were nominated alongside Mr Ng at St Anthony's Canossian Primary School on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, WP has put out three fresh faces for the GRC: social enterprise entrepreneur Raeesah Khan, 26; equity analyst Louis Chua Kheng Wee, 33; and Essec Business School's associate professor of economics Jamus Lim, 44. They are joined by He Ting Ru, 37, who ran as a candidate in Marine Parade GRC in 2015.
The Sengkang GRC has been formed by taking the Sengkang Central ward from Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC and combining it with Punggol East SMC and part of Sengkang West SMC. It has 120,166 voters.
Mr Ng, 51, was part of the PAP team that won the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC with 72.9 per cent of the vote in 2015. Over in Punggol East, PAP won 51.8 per cent of the vote in 2015, beating then incumbent MP Ms Lee Li Lian of the WP by a slim margin. Ms Lee won the Punggol East SMC in a 2013 by-election.
Mr Amrin had stood for election in Sembawang GRC in 2015, while Mr Lye is making his maiden political appearance in this election.
