CHINA'S fragile road to recovery is getting bumpier as the manufacturing hub of Guangzhou closed itself to most arrivals on Monday (Apr 11) just as the financial centre of Shanghai looks to emerge from lockdown, prompting more economists to cut their full year growth projections below the official target of about 5.5 per cent.
On Monday, Guangzhou - home to 18 million people and China's busiest airport - closed its doors to most arrivals after 27 Covid-19 cases were reported. No lockdown has been announced yet. Meanwhile Shanghai, where 26 million people have been under lockdown since Mar 28, is looking forward to the lifting of strict measures in areas with no new cases in the last 14 days.
