Ocean cargo rates may drop as much as 40%, but could be still higher than pre-pandemic levels

    OCEAN freight rates are expected to ease - possibly by up to 40 per cent - in 2022 after the first quarter, but are unlikely to drop precipitously to pre-pandemic low levels, analysts said.

    But there is downward pressure on freight rates beyond 2022 when new vessels are delivered and capacity goes up.
