Singapore and US to collaborate on AI, advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity
SINGAPORE and the United States will be working together on projects relating to artificial intelligence (AI), advanced manufacturing and cybersecurity, as part of a wider partnership aimed at strengthening trade and investment between both countries.
These 3 new areas of collaboration were established during Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's official visit to the US, where he met President Joe Biden at the White House on Tuesday (Mar 29).
In the area of AI, the US Department of Commerce (DOC) will be cooperating with the Infocomm Media Development Authority on developing interoperable artificial intelligence governance frameworks and supporting industry's adoption of ethical AI, said the Ministry of Trade and Industry in a press statement on Wednesday.
They will be holding mapping exercises, workshops, and other events with US and Singapore companies.
The DOC is also planning to organise an advanced manufacturing mission to the city-state and other countries in the region, including Indonesia.
The trade mission aims to promote standards that will improve manufacturing resiliency and facilitate new opportunities for collaboration among the Singapore and US private sectors.

As for cybersecurity, DOC and the Ministry of Communications and Information would be working together to come up with a set of cybersecurity best practices, including on regional capacity building programmes on smart cities.
These new areas of cooperation come under the Partnership for Growth and Innovation, a bilateral economic cooperation platform aimed at strengthening US and Singapore collaborations in new and forward-looking areas to achieve inclusive growth.
The memorandum of understanding was inked by Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong and US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo in October last year when Gan was there on an official visit.
