Greek economy grew 1.7% in fourth quarter: official data

[ATHENS] Greece's economy grew 1.7 per cent in the fourth quarter of 2014 in an annual comparison, the state statistics agency said on Friday.

This constituted the third straight rise in output, after increases of 0.4 per cent and 1.6 per cent in the second and third quarters respectively, the agency said.

The figures demonstrate that the Greek economy grew by 0.8 per cent between 2013 and 2014, an AFP calculation showed, a superior result to budget provisions.

The Greek finance ministry had forecast growth of 0.6 per cent for the year.

In a quarterly comparison, however, the economy contracted by 0.2 per cent compared to the previous three-month period.
